"When Sally Met Hellmann's"

30 January 2025

60s

Care for another bite.

Mayonnaise purveyor Hellmann's takes us back to Katz's Delicatessen where Harry Burns (Billy Crystal) watched Sally Albright (Meg Ryan) fake an orgasm for the ages in 'When Harry Met Sally'. Caviar's Jake Szymanski replaces Rob Reiner in the director's chair, but Crystal and Ryan are both present and correct. Older? Yes. Quieter? Hell no.

When Sally adds some of the advertised mayonnaise to her turkey club sandwich, she moans, groans, and smacks her hand on the table like it's 1989. "This one's real!" Harry says, like a man who knows just what to get for her birthday. Diners and staff alike turn to watch, but who gets to utter the immortal line, "I'll have what she's having"?

That would be Sydney Sweeney, the star of 'Euphoria' and 'Immaculate' was born eight years after 'When Harry Met Sally' came out. She delivers it like a romcom connoisseur, though, and helps the ad leave a creamy, carnal aftertaste. Harry's last line calls it as he sees it: "I'm competing with a condiment."
