This Time Next Year We'll Be Millionaires
This slice-of-life promo for Good Health Good Wealth doubles as a plug for Cosy Cafe in Newham, east London. It's where vocalist Bruce Breakey and his on-screen partner (Holly Hawgood) come to flirt then fall in love with each other. Is it too good to last? Breakey's mood swings and drink-fuelled social life suggests it might be. Graded with an eye for story by Nick Dalby, the film flits between a guy who’s got his shit together and one ready to lose it. He parties like a man who's got nothing to lose, but every beer he knocks back loosens his grip on what could be. The atmosphere inside Cosy Cafe changes as a consequence—some problems, it turns out, can't be solved by a good cuppa. Breakey's lyrics (set to instrumentation that evokes The Streets and 00s 'FIFA' soundtracks) go on to nail that head in the sand attitude that dooms relationships with: "On paper we could shape up/But this time next year we'll be millionaires." He'll drink to that, we fear.
