Everybody Scream
If Florence Welch ever quits music, she might consider a career as a Zumba instructor. Florence and the Machine's new song has the right instructions for it ("Everybody dance, everybody sing, everybody move, everybody scream"), though it may be too art rock for some gymgoers. In fact, let's hope Welch sticks to arenas and stadiums where a baroque banger like this belongs. It's music to make you thrust and surrender, and director Autumn de Wilde knows it. The bulk of her lush promo takes place in Wythenshawe Hall, where Welch and a coven of witches hold court. De Wilde and choreographer Ryan Heffington aim for beautiful, bestial, and bonkers—we're glad to say they've hit the mark and then some. Bent spines, mouths agape, carnal lunges... some of it threatens to set the hall on fire for a second time. Another standout is the horseman who rides his noble steed backwards. It sets the tone for a film where rationality and decorum is drowned out ("Here, I don't have to be quiet/Here, I don't have to be kind"). No need to wait for Halloween—the season of the witch is here.
