The long return.

The circuit can be very very long, but eventually, it seems, everyone who ever left EastEnders finds their way back and it's now the turn of Michelle Ryan to step back into Albert Square. Her big storyline came twenty-four years ago when she discovered that she was not, as she thought, the sister of brassy Kat Slater, but her daughter.

To draw attention to this latest return, this promo from director Matt Rhodes centres on the idea that mother and daughter are two sides of the same coin, with Jessie Wallace as Kat striding through the sunshine in opposition to Ryan's journey through a darker landscape. It will undoubtedly give a bump to the viewing figures for a few weeks, in the same way that a record prize in the EuroMillions helps to shift tickets, but, as soon as the novelty wears off, it'll be as you were.
