Where's your head at?
This Dr Oetker ad contains scenes of explicit violence and gore. Don't let its sugar-sweet, stop-motion outer layer fool you—this is a straight-up horror movie. The twisted minds responsible are agency adam&eveDDB and director Tobias Fouracre, who lull viewers into a false sense of security with... a gingerbread man. Life is good for the protagonist. He lives in a gingerbread house that's dressed up to the nines, has a pet cat that sits by the fire, and even owns a pretzel chair that must have cost a, erm, knot inconsiderable amount. So what if a robin pecks a bit of his hand off—it's nothing a little fresh air can't fix (we like how he turns a snowman’s candy frown upside down with a new scarf). As he makes a snow angel, however, the truth hits us like a bag of sugar in the face: the gingerbread man's winter wonderland was a kitchen worktop all along. At least the little girl who picks him up looks friendly, so maybe he can live a long and happy life in—oh, no, she just bit his head off. What a way to go, eh? It's a brutal, funny twist on the edible mascot trope, as the pragmatic Dr Oetker reminds us that biscuits are meant to be eaten at Christmas. The brand's advice? Eat the head first to reduce suffering.
