Banking on thrillers.

The vibe of this splendid TV spot from Canada for Coinbase is that of a 1980s psychological thriller, and that really captures your attention from the get go. The complaint is a familiar one... why should we be pushed around by banks to operate around their timings? That said, with most people using their mobile phones to run their financial lives, there can't be that many people who visit the bank regularly these days.

Nonetheless, it's astute to associate the advertised service with this idea, as it helps to broaden the market's idea of what it does. Many, if they've heard of Coinbase at all, they will associate them wholly with the buying and selling of cryptocurrency, which, even as such investments acquire the questionable endorsement of the president south of the border, remain pretty dubious.

Director Matthew Swanson with fantastic help from production designer Ben Gerlis and cinematographer Daniels Voldheim creates a perfect setting and look for the piece, and thereby ensures that the proposition is lodged firmly in the minds of viewers.
