"Airwyn"

5 August 2025

Love, war, and detergent.

This Audible commercial takes its cues from the ever-popular fantasy genre. 'Quicksilver', 'Shield of Sparrows', 'A Court of Thorns and Roses'... who needs 'The Winds of Winter', eh? Now agency Fold7 and director Adam Berg present the ballad of Airwyn and Ivaran, a couple no longer content to stand on ceremony. "Bound by the chains of duty"? Bugger off.

Before Airwyn weds your archetypal fantasy villain with the sternest face in the kingdom, Ivaran bursts through the doors like the fate of the world is at stake. The love of his life is no damsel in distress, mind—she's more than a match for the guards who thought this would be an easy payday. The real trouble starts when the narrator says: "Your love turned the whole world on its head."

The whole castle does indeed go topsy-turvy, which sure makes Airwyn and Ivaran's escape harder than expected. It looks great, though, as Berg and his crew (aided by the wizards at Electric Theatre Collective) allow pomp and ceremony to spin out of control. It's almost as if the cast are stuck inside a washing machine or tumble dryer...

As is always the way with spots in this sector, the transition to the real world is critical. This one's a silly but skilful example, and it should encourage viewers who are bored stiff at the laundrette to, er, take a spin.
