"Moving Day"

2 February 2025

30s

Seaside blues.

José González 's 'Stay Alive' adds to the emotional heft of this film for Amazon which depicts the disenchantment of an adolescent lad as he comes to terms with a move to a house in an unfamiliar terrain. His mother, aware that he's struggling, spots an opportunity to make things better for him and uses the advertised retailer to get it done.

Director Frédéric Planchon is the perfect choice for a script like this as he masterfully keeps the story small to explore its big themes, and thereby ensures maximum empathy with the protagonist. The portrait built by Planchon is astonishingly complete given he has only thirty seconds in which to create it. And , by constructing it the way he has, he largely sidesteps the questionable idea of parents buying their way out of difficulties.
