In a silly nod to 'Line of Duty', Martin Compston and Vicky McClure failed to solve the mystery of who stole the No.1 Red Velvet Bauble Dessert from the fridge earlier this month. They should have invited Adrian Dunbar round, or borrowed Matthew Macfadyen's copy of 'Super Detective: A Sleuth's Handbook'.

Three weeks after 'Sweet Suspicion' caught the nation's imagination, part two reveals who or what pinched the aforementioned pudding. It would be churlish to spoil it—just know that Macfadyen's Poirot/Columbo moment is a real treat. Detective Inspector Edmund Reid—his character in ‘Ripper Street'—would be so proud.

At the end of the day, the brand would prefer not to make this a police matter. So long as everyone gets a bite of what it sees as the Christmas 2024 dessert, there's no harm done. Certain sweet-toothed viewers may not be so lenient in real life.
