Cher for President!

At a time when the ages of prominent Americans are in the firing line, if you'll forgive the pun, it's refreshing to see that one of the two presidential candidates' most famous compatriots refuses to grow old, despite being, well, old. Cher, once of Sonny and Cher fame, has been turning back time for longer than most of us can remember and she proves a perfect choice to launch the newly rebranded TV station, U.

The Californian-born chanteuse is blended into a number of scenes from the nostalgia-based offerings available on the advertised channel, and thus we get to see her singing to Don Draper, sitting in the back of an off-road vehicle being driven by Chris Kamara ("Unbelievable, Jeff!"), and, best of all, singing karaoke with Barry from Eastenders.

As befits the self-styled Goddess of Pop, it's all extremely silly, extremely camp and great fun. Director Christian Bevilacqua also ran the VFX team, and while purists may recognise that it could have been marginally more seamless, they should also recognise that this doesn't matter one bit, because the outcome is fantastic.
