Please Please Please
If Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan ever break up, they’ll always have 'Please Please Please'. Directed by Bardia Zeinali, it's a music video inspired by the likes of 'Badlands', 'Bonnie & Clyde', and 'Natural Born Killers'. Carpenter was arrested at the end of the recent 'Espresso' promo, but someone has already bailed her out. As she checks out of the county jail, Keoghan checks in—when the two lock eyes, a meta-match is lit. Carpenter sings: "I heard that you're an actor, so act like a stand-up guy/Whatever devil's inside you, don't let him out tonight," but that's easier sung than done. Keoghan's a lover, a fighter, a bank robber, and a trouble magnet rolled into one ('Saltburn' fans will be gutted to learn that indecent exposure is not one of his crimes). The track is too sunny, too ABBA for the heavy stuff, but we do get a body in the trunk at one point. It's fun to watch Carpenter lose patience with Keoghan as the story unfolds ("I beg you, don't embarrass me, motherfucker"). Handcuffs and duct tape prove the former Disney Channel star is not to be messed with.
