Open wide for some cartoon violence.
Fresh off a cameo at Paris Fashion Week, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) take viewers to the "piggy promised land": a pig farm that porcine nightmares are made of. Electric prods, conveyor belts, a laissez-faire attitude towards animal welfare… you name it, this animated facility has it. Inspired by the dark corners of Fleischer Studios and Walt Disney Animation Studios, director Jeff Low (with help from animators Andrei Sopon and Reuben Sutherland) delivers a place that screams, "All bacon comes from a place of pain and suffering!" Skin is torn off and pigs' heads are worn by children, just for that extra dash of gore. It's "blood, guts, a real horror show", to quote Dr Lucien Sanchez, but it's also a satirical musical that brims with contempt for the pork industry. They will have plenty to say about this, no doubt, but PETA will insist they cannot hear them above the noise of pigs' squeals.
