In the Modern World

In another extraordinary study of dysfunction and alienation, director Luna Carmoon introduces the sport of car jiu-jitsu as the protagonist of the latest stunning promo for Fontaines D.C. literally wrestles his way through life. Actor Ewan Mitchell who plays the main man Martin, is surrounded by a wonderfully colourful array of cameos courtesy of Road Casting's Coralie Rose.

Writer/director Carmoon and movement director Lewis Walker work wonders in tight spaces as 'Martin' and a series of combatants fight inside a car, creating a beguiling dance as they battle for supremacy. Onlookers, like those watching the promo, are gripped by the homoerotic action inside the vehicle and some of the awestruck noises emitted by the observers sound as though they were candidly captured.

Under Carmoon's confident stewardship, editor Joseph Taylor has expertly assembled cinematographer Jack Hamilton's raw imagery to create an endlessly compelling promo, making the director's ongoing collaboration with Fontaines D.C. hugely creative, and a source of ensuring fascination for DAVID.
