Eusexua
Jordan Hemingway has directed the promo for FKA Twigs’s latest single. It’s one part commercial music video, one part experimental art film, and a wholly captivating visual expression of the artist’s music. Twigs describes ‘Eusexua’ as “a practice, a state of being, the pinnacle of human experience”, and Hemingway has crafted a piece that brings that into sharp focus. It opens with wry humour, featuring Twigs as an unassured participant of the daily grind, whose days are filled with corporate jargon while working for ‘Cronecorp’. A phone call becomes a portal to an alternative, more honest and free way of being, as Zoï Tatopoulos’s transformative choreography provides the momentum for a group of office workers to sink back into the bodies that lie beneath their suits. It’s clear that dance is a form of unfiltered self-expression for Twigs, as her technique and natural abilities as a dancer once again shine. Her willingness to explore creative boundaries finds a natural home in Hemingway’s bold directing style, and the resulting film is one that reminds us how important music videos are as creative playgrounds for all involved.
