"Coming Home for Christmas"

10 November 2024

2 mins

This Christmas story seems likely to chime with many as a father and son enjoy a reunion organised by the latter to surprise the former, and has to pull out all the stops to make it on time. You can see where it's going from very early on but that does nothing to diminish the emotional impact at the moment of truth.

Director Max Fisher manages to tell the story despite evidently threadbare resources (not even the Caribbean's smallest island could have an airport that looks quite that basic!) and land it with considerable punch. It feels like the kind of film which people will share online, if only to guilt their own errant children into visiting during the festive season, and - crucially - it has the feel of something that the audience will enjoy again and again.
