The idea that iPlayer content ticks more boxes related to time, place, and mood plays right into Mandy's hands. He has a lot of fun with the teenage boy forced to share an awkward silence with his girlfriend's dad on the sofa (the relief when she returns is palpable).

Mandy and his crew then shake it up when two boys fight over a toy in the backseat of a car. Not only does 'Pokémon' distract them, it turns them into anime characters that laugh in the face of boredom and roadworks. Pikachu for them, peace at last for the grown-ups.
