Last year, DAVID and his fiancée did the unthinkable and gave up on The Great British Bake Off. The Smörgåstårta was an early nail in the coffin, followed by the insanity that was Mexican Week. In a case of numerical irony, series thirteen just had a cursed feel to it.

There is hope for series fourteen though, with Alison Hammond replacing Matt Lucas as co-presenter. Perhaps the woman who broke Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford will have more rapport with contestants than Lucas did.

She, along with Noel Fielding, Prue Leith, and Paul Hollywood, star in this 60" teaser, though it's the ingredients (eggs, butter, flour, et cetera) that take centre stage. Scored by Belinda Carlisle's 'Heaven Is a Place on Earth', the ad charts their often perilous journey to Welford Park.

Animated faces are a simple but effective touch, as is the strain of dark humour that turns this into a suicide mission. We love the joyous cheer that accompanies the death of an egg—a worthy, runny sacrifice.
