Flying Fate
If you ever felt like you had a tough first day at a new job, you may well relate to this gently surreal short film. Written by Rick Darge and Dugan O'Neal, the piece opens on a man who seems to be doing some sort of exercise or martial art next to an airport, celebrating when an incoming plane lands successfully. A curious passer-by stops to ask him about his activities, and derides the man's magical explanation. It's difficult to take casual comments about creating a "golden shield of protection" around aircraft via hand movements without some scepticism, after all. The cautionary part of the tale comes when the newcomer gives in to mockery, imitating the main character when the next flight comes in. We won't spoil the reveal, but this is a funny, tongue in cheek way to make a point about letting people mind their own business without making fun of them... who knows how destructive the consequences could be.
