The trees of life.
The murders of Indigenous expert Bruno Pereira and journalist Dom Phillips in the Amazon rainforest shocked the world last year – two more victims in the fight against poaching, illegal fishing, and deforestation. So, how do the likes of Chief Uruma Kambeba, leader of the Tururukari-Uka tribe, protect their home in safety? That's the premise of this three-minute Samsung commercial, with Uruma and his daughter Taissa centre stage. They remind viewers that conservation is not just about protecting nature, it's about protecting communities, traditions, and knowledge. Armed invaders make these efforts dangerous and even fatal. Uruma therefore uses a smartphone to capture evidence and map vulnerable areas from a distance. Taissa, meanwhile, uses hers to enlighten others about Indigenous life. The onus is now on President Lula to make the right calls... and on Samsung to keep their own hefty promises.
