Something On My Mind
Time loops are, well, inescapable these days, with films ('Happy Death Day', 'Palm Springs'), TV shows ('Russian Doll', 'The Lazarus Project'), and video games ('Deathloop', 'Outer Wilds') all stuck on repeat. The latest addition to this genre comes courtesy of Denisha Anderson, who directs a roundabout promo for Purple Disco Machine. The German producer is joined by Duke Dumont and Nothing But Thieves, a clunky combination that would never fit on a marquee. What matters most is the music, and 'Something On My Mind' nails that easy-breezy electro-pop sound with stealthy precision. Nothing But Thieves and Purple Disco Machine’s efforts are rewarded with humiliation and degradation, either tied up in a car boot or chained to the floor with no chance of escape. The protagonists are also 'trapped', but they rather enjoy the temporal loop they're stuck in. Each vignette ends when a milkshake's finished—before that, the couple drive around in a Porsche with a "B4DD13" licence plate, mug off gas station owners, and rob the Hot Rod Diner with a pump-action shotgun. That sort of behaviour would get most patrons banned for life, but not in this purple-tinged universe.
