Cash Converters
Club takeovers are one of the hottest topics in football at the moment. Whether it's billionaires attempting to 'sportswash' their unsavoury careers, or Hollywood stars writing a real-life underdog story, fans love to trash talk whoever's receiving the latest cash injection. That is, until their own club's coffers are set to swell thanks to the phenomenon. Paddy Power sends the trend up in an amusing new ad, which sees a pub full of fans talk up their club's 'real' qualities (community, legacy, etc). As soon as an oil baron opens his considerable wallet, however, they rapidly change their tune by launching into an appreciative chant. Director Freddie Waters strikes the right balance between wry humour and outright mockery with the action, as it's hard for any fan to deny that their moral objections would sway if it was their team getting a guaranteed resource boost. It's an interesting insight into the current state of British football, and assures fans that whatever happens this season... at least it won't be boring.
