Bug Like An Angel

'Bug Like an Angel,' the new song by Mitski Miyawaki, has lyrics that weather-beaten country singers would kill for, like, "As I got older I learned I'm a drinker/Sometimes a drink feels like a family." Even that pales next to, "Did you go and make promises you can't keep?/Well, when you break them, they break you right back."

A lifetime of broken promises may explain why the woman in Noel Paul's music video is drunk on the street late at night. She dances/staggers into the arms of a gospel choir, which also features Mitski on guitar. Despite the group's best efforts, the woman does it like Fleetwood Mac and goes her own way—but not before she wrecks their 'Free Coffee' station.

The whole promo belongs to dancer KJ Holmes, who oscillates between spiky and vulnerable as the encounter unfolds. Her character's fate is left uncertain, just as Mitski reminds us that right and wrong share an uneasy relationship: "The wrath of the devil/Was also given him by God".
