Pointed Peel
A man is sent into paroxysms of distracted ecstasy over his colleague's dextrous fingers in this tongue in cheek commercial for Harry's razors. Rather than anything which would necessitate HR involvement, the guy becomes obsessed with his co-worker's ability to peel a satsuma in one, unnervingly even strip. Not a tangerine, as he breathlessly explains to an uninterested third party, a satsuma. The narrative is handled nimbly by director Max Sherman, who gives the viewer space to enjoy the main character's descent into near-erotic mania over the display of dexterity. A great central performance anchors the story nicely, with nonplussed reactions from bystanders and focused sound design (highlighting the slow ripping of the peel) bringing extra laughs to the tale. This is a lovely example of a straightforward concept being elevated by attention to detail, as every aspect of the film is clearly considered for its contribution to the overall effect. The colour palette of the office, the brief flashes of inappropriate chat locations (the gents being a main offender), and a final shuddering gasp from the lead - it all comes together to drive home the brand's irreverent, cheeky identity.
