Get ready for Eurovision
The ill feeling towards the UK from the rest of Europe over the past decade had made it almost unthinkable that this country would ever again get the opportunity to host the Eurovision Song contest... an honour conferred on the winner of the previous year's competition. The elusive win, of course, remains out of reach, as Sam Ryder didn't actually win for the UK last year. Instead, Ukraine triumphed, partly on a wave of popular sympathy that felt entirely in keeping with the spirit of the competition. Although President Zelenskyy was initially bullish about his country hosting in 2023, it quickly became apparent that this wouldn't be possible and the UK was chosen in their place. It's been twenty-five years since the last time we hosted the competition and, it has changed a lot over that time... principally by consolidating the campness which previously operated at its periphery. This marvellous trail reflects that shift in wonderfully joyous fashion. Director Chris Balmond has created a film which captures the excitement, the anticipation and all of the unfiltered fabulousness viewers can expect to experience when the Eurovision circus rolls into Liverpool next month.
