St Charles Square

Toby L directs this black-and–white promo for 'St Charles Square', Blur's tale of "a place where the ghosts of monsters can be found". Rather than subject Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James, and Dave Rowntree to a creature with "a long and slender claw", L captures footage from the band's 2023 comeback tour.

Everyone here is up for it, whether they're on or off stage. That's what an eight-year absence does to people, with Albarn in full rabble-rouser mode and Coxon like a middle-aged man possessed. James and Rowntree keep it tight, in case their bandmates keel over and they need to keep the crowd entertained.

Some of the footage is a bit blurry (pun intended), as L and editor Matt Prickett condense four shows into one hazy package. They also 'loop' certain moments and gestures as if too much post-Britpop hype has caused the cameras to malfunction.
