Argos

"New Arrival"

It must be a tricky time to be Argos. While once upon a time kids were given a copy of the ubiquitous Argos Catalogue and told to circle items in the hopes Father Christmas would spot their choices from the North Pole, we imagine they now simply email the big man a link to their carefully curated Amazon wish list. For a brand which is so linked with a physical object in the minds of a public gone digital, putting on a new face in the 2020s is a tough ask.

This fresh campaign introduces a pair of friends - a talking doll and toy dinosaur - voiced by Ruth Bratt and Charlie Cooper, who curiously investigate a new cushion which has arrived on their household sofa. The restrained comedy of the situation unspools nicely, with director James Rouse giving the plastic dino's efforts as a welcoming committee plenty of room to breathe.

It'll be interesting to see how the public responds to the piece, as it's focused on vibes and hints towards the brand's range of products rather than emphasising them. You never know - Connie and Trevor could be the next Sergei and Aleksandr, and end up with their likenesses being sold on the advertised store's shelves before the year is out.
