Decidedly Different

A young woman decides to rock her differences in this quirky commercial from Amazon Prime. Directed by Olivia Wilde, it shows the central character initially experiencing a crisis of confidence about the small moustache she's grown... before she realises it's the one thing all her idols have in common.

Snappy editing helps the story here, with a swift journey around the various pictures, posters, and trinkets in her bedroom establishing her world for the audience in short order. We get a sense of her pop cultural landscape in rapid shorthand, allowing us to remain fully immersed in the narrative.

A foray onto the advertised site to find a Freddie Mercury-style yellow jacket cements her new-found confidence, which is buoyed when she wears it to the familiar teen torture chamber we've all known and hated (school). This is a love letter to finding your feet in the turmoil of adolescence, and also carries an empowering message about breaking beauty standards for women and girls.
