Vestiaire Collective

"Long Live Fashion"

Felt fashion.

Documentary filmmaker and fashion commentator Loïc Prigent narrates this playful outing for second-hand clothing website Vestiaire Collective. Rather than use human models—as was the fashion for a time—the brand use puppets called Miss Classique, Rich, Lady Green, Drops, and Hunter to promote their wares.

Prigent, who's directed films about Karl Lagerfeld, Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent, et al., calls the action with commendable sincerity. The cast may look like muppets, but Prigent insists they are the vanguard of sustainable fashion ("Everything is pre-loved… even the models").

The juxtaposition of the impassive puppets and their enraptured audience is also well done, maintaining the tropes of a fashion show while also subverting them. As fashion houses ponder how to keep eco-conscious consumers onside, Vestiaire Collective make it look like child's play.
