There's a bevy of movie references, for starters, as Crouch fantasises about referee Mark Clattenburg and spoofs American Beauty, Magic Mike, and Dirty Dancing along the way. The last may have given Clattenburg vertigo.

Alex Robson and Florence Russell's script also finds new ways to poke fun at Crouch's height, as when wife Abbey Clancy holds a chip as long as her forearm. Of course, they're dining at The Robot Arms.

The former England striker may not be a conventional romantic lead, but he plays the role with customary enthusiasm. Despite the change in agency, it's clear that Crouch remains Paddy Power's spirit animal.
