Classroom Compromises

Do you have what it takes to be a kindergarten teacher? That's the question asked in an amusing new series of commercials aimed at recruiting teachers in Norway, which showcase classroom skills in unusual settings.

This spot is a standout, featuring three bank robbers who aren't quite cut out for their current occupation. Two of the criminals engage in an argument about who gets to sit up front in the getaway van, with the third having to hastily arrange a compromise so they can make it 'out of Dodge' before they're caught.

It's a funny way of blowing up a childish dispute to absurd levels, demonstrating the sort of rapid problem solving at which teachers of young children excel. Director Torstein Bjørklund keeps things just silly enough that the humour feels natural, with the bickering pair showing believable pettiness.
