Too Good for Giving Up
Liam Gallagher's new single is a pleasant surprise in more ways than one. Not only is Too Good for Giving Up a solid, even gratifying listen, its promo raises awareness about men's mental health with commendable maturity. David Jonsson (Industry, Rye Lane) carries his oversized, papier-mâché double on his shoulders through the streets of Manchester, a physical manifestation of his inner turmoil. Think Mardis Gras, but darker. Yet as Gallagher sings, "Look how far you've come/Stronger than the damage done", other men take notice and follow Jonsson. The way they ease his burden next to Gullivers pub is both touching and well staged. The film ends with Jonsson in a circle with other men ready to share their feelings. For those in a similar position, charity partners Talk Club are happy to help.
