"Buy a Thing, Sell a Thing"

18 October 2021

40s

Everything in its right place.

Musicals are a love-hate proposition: delight for some, torture for others. This lyrical eBay commercial may not tickle those in the latter camp, but it does seed the brand's new pre-loved drive with gusto.

The ad encourages a one in, one out approach to consumerism ("Bought a new thing that's tickled your bones?/Flog that thing you've definitely outgrown"), with nothing condemned to landfill. Even a classic sailor Action Man enjoys a new lease of life.

Director David Wilson executes some excellent transition shots as he presents the circular economy in full flow. The unexpected recepient of the aforementioned doll is another neat touch, as it shows how old goods can spark new interests.
