"Don't Choose Extinction"

29 October 2021

2 mins 30s

Rapt(or) audience.

Jack Black voices the world's most resilient velociraptor in this timely piece of work for the United Nations Development Programme. Despite his species being vaporised over sixty-six million years ago, the swift seizer arrives in New York to demand a little less conversation and a little more action from delegates.

It's a zany premise, but director Murray Butler keeps the action grounded as much as possible. The protagonist has witnessed extinction first hand after all, and he reckons humanity is about to suffer the same fate through their own volition. For once, Dr. Alan Grant's worst nightmare is on our side.

Strong animation helps make the predator's case, as does Black's effective vocal performance. A gag about microphone feedback may be as old as time, but it's a useful means to ease viewers into the cross-species crucible.
