Cool Kids

The grinding reality of life for many inner city youths takes centre stage in this enthralling promo for Hak Baker's 'Cool Kids'. Director Will Robson-Scott keeps things tightly focused on the central character, camera fixed on the young man's face as he grows up in a world of drug dealing, parental alienation, and bad ideas forced into being by circumstance.

Gritty and sensitive in equal measure, the track and accompanying film see Baker in reflective mood as he muses over a life which began with no ambition and short-term goals alone. Robson-Scott and DOP Emile Ebrahim Kelly's canny visual approach allows the narrative to shine throughout, drawing viewers into the protagonist's point of view with gusto.
