Mary Poppins rides again.

This charming Christmas effort from Boots tells the story of Joy and her bottomless bag of gifts. Starring Jenna Coleman as a modern interpretation of Santa Claus, the emotional heart of the film is a touching relationship between grandmother and granddaughter, as an initial present seemingly activates the festive magic.

Coleman's performance anchors what could otherwise have devolved very quickly into schmaltz, as her wide-eyed appreciation for making others happy with her magic bag rings true. Three minutes is pushing it for any festive outing, but a combination of varied gifting scenarios and a vigorous musical score carries viewers through to the end.
