The waiting game.

Some awkward conversations make you want to stick your head in a microwave and hit full power. The one in this Heinz Cup Soup ad, however, is worth sticking with thanks to a pair of sweet yet agonising lead performances.

As two co-workers wait for their respective tomato soups to ping, one takes a leap into the unknown by asking who the other is texting (it’s his mum, bless him). Alas, the ensuing conversation doesn’t so much flow as limp.

Their, ahem, soup release only comes after 90” cooking time, which ensures the advertised product plays an unmistakable role in the comedy. A well-observed Valentine’s Day helping from director Dan Castella.
