Ghost Town

London-born Aria Wells aka Greentea Peng is mad as hell about the state of her hometown, and she’s not going to take it anymore. Like the Specials track of the same name, Peng’s 'Ghost Town' focuses on urban malaise and an increasingly disaffected population ("London Bridge is fallin' down/All my mates walkin' round with frowns"). It is, as one might say, grim down south.

At first glance, Melody Maker's accompanying black-and-white promo seems to compound this funereal vibe. However, there is a vibrancy to Peng's route through South London's Aylesbury estate, while the singer’s distinctive presence and vocal delivery stand out against the ailing concrete backdrop. Part rallying cry, part elegy, and all captivating.
