Uncomfortable Truths

Lockdown may have been a blessing for domestic pets who suddenly had their humans at home all day, but wild animals have a different take on being locked in. The plight of animals in captivity the world over is rendered poignantly here by Aardman Animation and director Peter Peake, who tap into the legacy of Creature Comforts to explain that, for some, lockdown is an unjust fact of life.

It's a canny move to draw parallels between human frustration and anxiety at being confined and the similar emotions our caged counterparts must feel, as candid interviewees help hammer home the true sadness of the situation. An elderly elephant commenting on loneliness and a mother monkey trying to protect her child from their reality, in particular, should soften even the hardest of audience hearts.
