"A Holiday Reunion"

Gone home.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back outside, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial returns to Earth in this two-minute ‘sequel' which also sees Henry Thomas reprise his most famous role. Fortunately, that whole near-death experience thing hasn't scarred Elliott too much.

In fact, he's got his own family to impress E.T. with this time around, as well as a, er, Sky Q box. Whether on-demand telly exists on the alien's home planet or not remains to be seen, but he seems entertained enough.

There's an amusing simplicity to the way E.T. is welcomed back into the fold, as he's almost immediately curled up on the sofa with Elliott and company. As we soon learn, however, even extraterrestrials have family obligations.

You can also imagine the cast, crew, and creative were kept on a tight leash throughout. After all, E.T. is Steven Spielberg's shrivelled, turd-shaped baby. The result is a safe but affectionately made comeback story, and one that will have many viewers looking to the skies again.
