Limitless Horizons

This striking short film from up-and-coming director Savanah Leaf was commissioned to celebrate female filmmakers at this year's Tribeca Film Festival. The piece draws attention to the inspiring artistic journey of twenty-two year old rapper Alessandra Prete aka Priestess - one of the first women to break through the Italian trap music scene.

The meditative tone of the film offers a microcosm of the artist's life, contrasting the quiet, sleepy pace of her rural home town with the explosively creative bursts of music she uses to express herself.

Conversations with friends and other artists offer further insight, and an intimate talk with Prete's grandmother - whose life has been extremely limited because of her gender - sheds light on her granddaughter's determination to follow her dreams no matter what. The closing shots, which contrast Prete contemplating her seemingly limitless horizon with her grandmother sitting at home, are particularly affecting.
