AXA

"The Save"

10 August 2018

60s

A safe pair of hands.

This father-son bonding effort from AXA pays tribute to football's most maligned position - the goalkeeper. When conceding a goal too many puts a boy in hot water with his teammates, his dad comes to the rescue with some improvised training strategies.

From playing keep-away with a washing line to mattress-assisted diving practice, it's a nicely drawn exploration of the lengths a parent will go to in order to make their sprog happy. The final match is a joyful triumph of their efforts... barely dampened by an unexpected arboreal accident.

Director Guy Manwaring keeps things pacy and entertaining throughout, which ensures we don't expect the final twist. With lovely production design and an authentic emotional heart, this should resonate with those willing to go the extra mile - much like the advertised insurers.
