I Come From Pain

The first thing you notice while watching Zhang + Knight's promo for French singer Sônge is the palette. A myriad shades of blues and lilacs - so exquisitely put together it's spellbinding - leave you wondering whether it was simply a happy accident or whether the directors have a far more developed colour perception than the rest of us mere mortals.

It turns out that it is more likely to have been inspired by the fact that Sônge has colour-sound synaesthesia (lucky thing). Combining the ethereality of FKA Twigs with the late-night wooze of Portishead circa 'Dummy', her music itself was sparked by her ability to see sound as colour.

Zhang + Knight's clip with its crepuscular gloom feels as if we're being given an insight into this crossover world, and has captured something very special indeed.
