Taking responsibility

"You're not taking that / those / him," is a mantra parents everywhere are familiar with in relation to the potentially dangerous items their young offspring are drawn to. Hair clippers, axes, nunchucks, inappropriate boyfriends... it would appear mums and dads have to be perpetually on their guard to ward off trouble at the pass.

Thank heavens, then, for Subaru - the one thing they're happy for the children (who have made it to driving age) to take when going out somewhere.

One of two commercials proclaiming the brand's safety features, it's deftly observed and wryly funny. The grown-ups' responses to the sight of tots about to ski downstairs or scalp a friend perfectly communicate that brief but stomach-flipping sense of panic as imagined scenes of narrowly-avoided carnage unfold before them.

It adds great substance to the idea that Subaru will look after your progeny on occasions when you can't.
