Divine examination with Morgan Freeman.

The National Geographic Channel's 'The Story of God' hits screens shortly and in an impressive coup, they've enlisted God to present the programme. Well, not quite. It's Morgan Freeman, but having played God in 'Bruce Almighty', there's a pleasing synergy to this engrossing trail.

Given that many would welcome Freeman narrating their own life story, his warm, weathered tones are the ideal fit for this look at humanity's fascination with who or what could be looking down on us.

What really grabs our attention is the cinematic quality of this trail... people reach out for divine intervention in a series of beautifully composed vignettes, each slowed down to the heighten the emotions of an expectant couple, a mother watching her home ablaze, and those simply hoping for victory.

The series purports to approach its subject matter from a multi-disciplinary approach, but Favourite Colour: Black brings the human aspect to the fore with commendable grace. Each snippet encapsulates the moments when, regardless of our religious beliefs, we hope for something beyond what we can immediately perceive to see us through.
