Whiter than snow.
It's understandable perhaps that the Canadians already have their eye on the Winter Olympics even though the Rio carnival is just a few months away. After all, theirs is a country of snow and ice and they tend to pick up medals for fun when the mercury's at the low end of the scale. That's not to say they haven't had their moments at the Summer Olympics... who can forget Ben Johnson's stunning run in the 100m final in 1988? It broke both records and rules and is arguably the single most famous Olympic performance of all time. All the more reason then for Canada to keep its focus on the winter sports and Mark Zibert's film implies the Canadian psyche is one that cannot be daunted by freezing temperatures. He depicts his compatriots as fearless athletes who will happily dive into icy waters in their bid to improve their performances. It's terrifying and inspiring at the same time, but it leaves you in no doubt about the full-on commitment of this team. It's also beautifully shot which helps contribute to a sense that this a purer sporting competition untainted by the continuous allegations of cheating that have blighted the summer sports... an idea Canada must be keen to espouse as it moves another year further away from the Johnson controversy.
