A light that never goes out

A warm orb of light provides a comforting presence for those coping with terminal illness. Come daybreak, the light is revealed to be a Marie Curie nurse; there to care and support during what could have been a lonely and anxious night.

There's an unusual intimacy to this ad... ambient sound is hushed, completely evoking that sense of the sick room and of waiting, waiting... but in a way that reaches out a hand of solidarity to those in this situation. Brief moments mark the passing of time - the isolated hiss of a car's wheels outside, or the whistle of a kettle on the hob... the sounds one only notices when keeping vigil because almost everything is holding its breath.

Loss and grief are hovering in the shadows, yet the spot's acknowledgement of this seems only to help. It says: we know. We understand that this can't be shied away from. We're here up to and beyond that darkest hour.

It's a moving, tender portrayal of the charity's work and one that compels us to help keep the light shining for those in need.
