Wilkinson

"Afterglow"

20 September 2013

2 mins 48s

Afterglow

Ex-garden centre employee turned DJ / producer Wilkinson (he dropped the Mark) is in big demand for his drums'n'bass skills these days. He creates tracks that have enough cred to please the people who count, and enough mainstream appeal to please the masses.

His single Afterglow features powerful vocals from Becky Hill – a semi-finalist on the first series of The Voice – and they're what make this so distinctive. Better still is the video. Directed by Rémy Cayuela, it's based around a cheeky set of statistics totted up over the course of a single relationship. The images and the stats themselves are inventive and captivating... but also reminders (for those of us who are a bit older) that you can only live that lifestyle for so long.

And maybe that's what it concludes: that the afterglow is the warm recollection of shared memories, of things you grow out of but never forget. Beautifully done, funny and touching.
