Extraordinary rendition

When the BBC go down the spectacular route, you have to admire their commitment. Seventeen years after wowing everyone with their Perfect Day trail, the Corporation has done it again with this multi-voice treatment of The Beach Boys track God Only Knows.

An array of musical icons perform lines from the song as they move within a surreal landscape. Given the necessity of filming this a bit at a time, there's a remarkable visual continuity throughout and you really have to take your hat off to director Francois Rousselet and the team at The Mill for pulling this off... not to mention Munzie Thind at Grand Central, who was responsible for the sound design. That must have been like performing Hercules' twelve labours rolled into one.

When the public watches a film like this, they can't begin to imagine the graft that must go into it. We can't help thinking that Karmarama's Sam Walker and Joe de Souza must be clinically insane for coming up with this in the first place, and we can but admire their fortitude for seeing it through.

Take a break, everyone... you've earned it.
