The Second Coming

This astonishing piece of work truly is a game-changer. Rather than relying exclusively on the wonders of CGI, the martial arts legend was brought very much back to life via the human skill of 2- and 3D artists. Using water as a metaphor for a successful life philosophy, Lee asks us if we have the guts to follow our guts. But we're too busy keeping our eyes in our heads to think about guts.

On first viewing, it's tempting to think that he's just a brilliant looky-likey. Then you consider the CGI angle. But it's so naturalistic that the off-kilter moments which sometimes jar with CGI effects don't seem to occur. Andy Dill, lead 2D artist on the project at The Mill, says: "...we trusted our eyes above all else," and this is what makes the difference. As yet, there's still no substitute.

And what a coup for the brand. While the script may be a little more cod than philosophy, the quality of the visual side of this ad is what counts. It's not so much as if Bruce Lee has been resurrected than that he never went away at all.
