US start-up Echo & Wave combines music and sound design.
3 November 2025
Sound designer Tim Nielsen and composer Jeremy Turner have joined forces to create a new company in the audio space called Echo & Wave, and with their combined skill-set it promises to bring a valuable addition to the market.
There is obvious natural synergy between sound design and music composition, and many of the audio companies operating in the advertising industry offer both, but few companies have been started with that as their foundational idea. Step forward then composer Jeremy Turner and sound designer Tim Nielsen who have opted to do exactly that.

The duo have often worked together before, and they have tremendous track records having contributed to prominent ads for the likes of Nike, Google, Apple and Beats. |

Why though have they chosen to combine forces? Jeremy Turner explains: "We both like to get involved early, sometimes even before the shoot. We love participating in the creative vision so that music and sound are cohesive to that vision, rather than doing a mad dash of searching through libraries at the end, hoping to get lucky. We share a preference for a tailored approach resulting in crafted range of ideas, which helps to make each project the best it can possibly be. "When executed at a high level, the way music and sound can help shape a narrative is magical, so setting up shop together felt like the perfect next step." |

At a time when the threat of AI looms, Turner and Nielsen advocate strongly for the human approach. They are committed to "real music and real sound" because of the "immeasurable effect they can have on audiences". |

Jeremy is a composer who sits comfortably in any genre, from his work in advertising to his narrative and documentary work, to his symphonic compositions, he never ceases to amaze me with his capabilities. |

Jeremy Turner understands perfectly what it is about Tim Nielsen that makes him the perfect partner in this venture: "Tim is quite literally one of the top sound designers in the world, his list of credits is impressive to say the least. “Beyond that, he is obsessed with sound, it’s a life passion for him, not just a job. In this day of having everything at your fingertips, you can quite simply download sounds or pull things from a stock library. Not Tim. He grabs a mic, walks out into the woods, and records what he needs to make things as authentic and real as can be." |
|
Nielsen is just as complimentary about Turner: "Jeremy is a composer who sits comfortably in any genre, from his work in advertising to his narrative and documentary work, to his symphonic compositions, he never ceases to amaze me with his capabilities. Our shared experiences have taught us both the desire to leave no stone unturned in our search for more emotional uses of sound and music, but also the need and ability to work fast and flexibly on a wide range of projects." |

The pair first met at the Sundance Labs, hosted at Skywalker, and Nielsen says it was immediately clear they had the same passion for exploring audio, and a belief that music and sound always work best in tandem. That shared belief lies at the heart of Echo & Wave, but the respect and admiration they have for one another is also firmly part of the company's infrastructure. That they are similarly regarded by so many other people in the industry won't do any harm to its chances either. Decency is a prized commodity in today's industry, and turning to a company where it will certainly be found is very reassuring. On that basis alone, Turner and Nielsen's new venture is sure to succeed. |
